COWGIRL!

In the spring of 2004, Lynda Kay released the album "Cowgirl!" with her 8-piece band, Lynda Kay & the Lickity Splits.  Inspired by the country rock and Memphis soul sounds of 70's Elvis and Dusty Springfield, this all original critically acclaimed album has received rave reviews all over the world.   The title track is an autobiographical story about Lynda Kay's upbringing by her super strict, gun toting, father, and how that made her the character she is today.  Lynda Kay is fond of infusing music and humor and, in fact the Original Lynda Kay & the Lickity Splits were no exception (read more...)

GROWING UP...

The youngest of four children, Lynda Kay Parker was born to Jack and Mary Lynn Parker in Dallas, Texas. All her growing up years, Lynda Kay sang in choirs at church and school; however, singing was not her only passion.  LK was also a diligent student with a love for tap dancing, gymnastics, and the comedy of Carol Burnett.  At age 11 LKwas cast in her first stageplay performing the role of Anne in "Anne of Green Gables", and became so inspired, she wrote a play at age 12 involving characters from The Carol Burnett Show. She cast herself in the role of Stella Toddler, the older lady character made famous by Carol Burnett.  Her 6th grade teacher, Mrs. Hess, was so humored by the play, she produced it, and Lynda Kay and her classmates performed for the entire staff, parents, and students of Janie Stark Elementary. Later that year, LK talked Mrs. Hess into organizing a talent show competition.  LK gathered four of her closest girlfriends to teach them the strangely complicated routine she choreographed to the song "Greased Lightnin'."  After one rehearsal, all four of her friends bailed, and LK went on to perform the vigorous dance routine solo.  From the moment her provocative dance began, it was greeted with audible gasps and choking laughter from parents, teachers and other students. Although she was not chosen as the talent competition winner, it was very clear on that day that Lynda Kay does it her own way.

After graduating from high school, Lynda Kay moved to Lubbock, Texas (her mother's hometown) to attend Texas Tech University and studied both Political Science and Theatre Arts.  Upon graduating, LK had a tough decision on her hands: Should she pursue a life as a poor artist and face total disapproval from her super strict parents or go to law school?  Her fear of the repercussions won out, so she stayed in Lubbock another three years and graduated from the Texas Tech School of Law. Now a Juris Doctorate, she moved to Austin, Texas, worked at the Capital and suffered through a number of positions in the legal profession.  Bored and uninspired by the practice of law (and after waking up crying 24 days in a row), she made the decision that life is too short be in a job she hated, so she returned to her creative roots and has never looked back.
